Susan Livingstone CBT/REBT Integrative Therapist

Modern life, especially life in a city such as London, is stressful and overwhelming. People, jobs, places all put many demands on us, resulting in confusion, emotional disturbance and often burn-out. Susan offers CBT and REBT to clients looking for emotional or mental support. If you are looking for assistance in gaining clarity over an issues, or changing how you approach certain problems or behaviours, this could be the right therapy for you to try.

What can REBT help with?

REBT is a versatile and flexible kind of therapy that can help combat a range of mental or emotional issues. Negative emotions such as anxiety, depression, guilt, and extreme anger are all things that can be approached and resolved using REBT. It can also be used to help treat self-defeating behaviors, such as aggression, unhealthy eating, and procrastination - which may be stopping someone reaching their full potential, or reaching a personal life goal.

How can REBT help?

REBT is well suited to integration with other forms of therapy such as Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and Mindfulness. Susan uses aspects of these in her treatment where it matches a client’s needs. Susan has recently completed bereavement support training and can offer this service to those who are finding a loss difficult to come to terms with. Susan has a breadth of life experience and aims to provide a safe and welcoming space for clients to explore their emotional needs and life changes.

During your session, Susan will work with you to identify and change those negative or harmful thought-patterns that are causing you problems in your day to day life. This could be something you never noticed you were doing - or it may be something you’re aware of and desperate to change.

Susan will help you recognise these unhealthy mental patterns, and rationalise any irrational thoughts - so that you feel more in control. Sessions may include discussion, mental exercises, visualisation exercises and trying to reframe your thought patterns. The end goal is always to replace these unhealthy or unwanted thought patterns with healthier, constructive and positive thoughts.

Susan’s background

After an HR career in the civil service, Susan retrained in CBT, specialising in REBT (Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy) with the College of Cognitive Behavioural Therapies in London. This career change came about because Susan wanted to help people and work with them for their wellbeing instead of managing them as corporate resources. SE Wellbeing at Breathe London is the result of this training and career change.
